PECAN PIE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

CRUST

1 1/2 cups (192g) all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp. salt

4 tbsp. shortening

5 tbsp. (71g) unsalted butter

3 tbsp. to 5 ice cold water

2 tsp. white vinegar

FILLING

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

3 tbsp. brown sugar

1 cup (340g) light corn syrup

1/3 cup (75g) melted butter

1 tsp. vanilla

3 large eggs, beaten and at room temperature

1 cup chopped pecans

INSTRUCTIONS

CRUST

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

In a bowl whisk together your flour and salt.

Add in your shortening and butter and mix together using a pastry blender until crumbs appear.

Add in your water and vinegar and stir around and make into a ball.

Roll out dough into a large circle and place into a 9" deep dish pie plate, cutting away any excess crust, place in refrigerator.

FILLING

In a medium bowl mix together your granulated sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, vanilla and eggs and whisk until blended well.

Add your chopped pecans into bottom of your prepared pie crust.

Pour your filling mixture over the top.

Cover your pie with tin foil and bake in preheated oven for about 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes if needed until center is set and not overly jiggly.

Place pie on the counter or in the refrigerator to cool for several hours before serving.

Pecan Pie Recipe

Nothing is more classic and true to your grandma’s roots than a good old Pecan Pie. This recipe is from The Pioneer Woman and needed very little tweaking. (you know how much food bloggers like to tweak!) But after making quite a few different recipes this one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Easy Pecan Pie Recipe

This pecan pie recipe impressed me from beginning to end. The crispy topping, the chunky pecans, the gooey center and oh, of course, the flaky crust. You cannot go wrong with this recipe! However, we all grew up with a different version so I thought I would share those variations!

This recipe calls for 1 cup of pecans but I have heard folks adding as much as 3 cups. Their tip: Add about 2 cups and then another cup to pat down on top of the mix just before baking, usually about 55 minutes.  Before removing the baked pie from the oven, turn on the broiler and toast the top.  Allow it to cool for about 30 minutes then cut and enjoy.

Tips for Baking Pecan Pie

Spray your foil with non-stick spray before gently covering the pie so it doesn’t stick when you go to remove it.

Don’t over mix the eggs, beat them until just broken up.

Don’t skip the foil! No one wants burnt pecan pie and the foil will protect your filling and pecans from turning black.

Pecan Pie Recipe Variations

Chocolate Pecan Pie: Try adding a cup of semi-sweet chocolate for an extra sweet twist! Another fun addition? A teaspoon of cinnamon to the filling OR the crust!

Fancy Pecan Pie: For a new variation, add about 1 cup of pecans to the food processor and pulse until very fine. Sprinkle on the pie when it is done baking. (Just don’t serve this version to a true Southerner, I heard it is a deal-breaker!

We like to top it with ice cream around here, it gives it a delicious texture and flavor contrast the delights your taste buds!

30 French Braids Hairstyles Step by Step -How to French Braid Your Own

How to french braid your own hair for beginners

Boxing braids or double French braid – the hottest trend in the hairstyles of this season. You have seen such braids in the Kardashian sisters and in photos from fashion podiums. So that you can do this hairstyle yourself, we have prepared a super simple step-by-step guide.
In this hairstyle, two French braids – one on each side of the parting. Scourge them one by one. Take a small strand of hair from the forehead, divide it into three and begin to weave a braid, tightly pressing the strands to each other.

how do you wear ankle boots with skinny jeans

And while there are no right or wrong ways for cuffing, some are definitely more flattering than others! When it comes to ankle boots (basically any boot but knee-high or over-the-knee) and skinny jeans, I’m not a fan of tucking your jeans in the boots, or pulling them over the top of the boot. Leave those looks to tall boots and bootcut jeans.
The goal is to see at least a sliver of skin between the boot and hem of the jean.
Depending on the length of your jeans, that likely requires some sort of cuff…and there are several to choose from, depending on the look and style you prefer.

*The Slouchy Cuff*

Most skinny jeans are tight enough to hug the leg, so you can do a single cuff and let the rest of the length scrunch around the ankle. This look is casual and effortless.

*The Wide Cuff*

Fold the excess length up in a single wide cuff, making sure the cuffs are fairly even on both legs. This looks best on tall or leggy girls, as it can visually shorten the legs.

*The Messy Roll*

Fold the jeans up in a single, wide cuff, then fold them up again so the cuff is smaller, but the hem of the jeans are still exposed. This is how I cuff my jeans 99% of the time.

*The Double Roll*

Just as the name suggests, simply fold the hem up twice, creating a clean, even cuff. This style is is a more tailored look.
If you prefer a simpler method, or don’t like to cuff at all, choose jeans with a shorter inseam, or have them altered to ankle-length. Most of my jeans are a shorter inseam like these, and just require a simple, messy cuff.

So, today I am going to share you the best homemade recipe that will regrow your hair quickly and you can start from today.
On average, your hair grows by about half an inch every month. With the regular use of these 3 ingredients, your hair growth can be boosted by 4 to 5 times the usual rate.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is becoming a popular remedy for hair loss and a helpful ingredient for hair regrowth. It has antibacterial, and antifungal properties to treat scalp infections.
Castor oil is rich in antioxidants that help the keratin in hair to make it smoother, stronger, and less frizzy. Castor oil is rich in high protein content which in turn makes it very valuable to maintain hair health.
Further, it nourishes your hair follicles and protects it from infections such as folliculitis.
Benefits
  • Boosts faster hair growth
  • Cleans the scalp of toxins that can damage hair and slow growth
  • Reduces split ends and hair breakage
  • Moisturises hair and makes it soft, less frizzy, strong, shiny and smooth
  • Prevents dandruff
  • Strengthens hair shaft and adds volume to your hair
  • Promotes a healthy scalp

Egg Yolk

People have been using egg yolk as a treatment for strengthening hair from the olden days. Not only the hair, but it is also an important ingredient for all skin care products.
Egg yolk is rich in vitamins such as Vitamins A and E, biotin, and folate that may make hair more resistant to damage and helps in hair growth. The yolk may be especially useful to moisturize hair that appears dry.
Applying the egg yolk to your scalp can infuse the root of your hair with vitamins. Thus, the new hair will grow out stronger and be less prone to breakage and shedding. Egg yolk hair mask is one of the best ways to prevent hair fall and increase hair growth.
Benefits
  • Promote Hair Growth
  • Improve Hair Elasticity
  • Curb Breakage and hair loss
  • Heal Damage
  • Add shine

Honey

Honey is one of the best home remedies for all kinds of health and beauty problems. Honey is an emollient, which means it retains moisture in your hair and keeping it conditioned. So, you will be free from breakage, which is often a cause for slower hair growth.
How about trying egg and honey for hair? This combination will help combat the problem of dandruff, strengthen the hair follicles and promote the growth of strong and nourished hair.
Benefits
  • Cleans the hair follicles by getting rid of impurities.
  • Curbing hair fall.
  • It has rich antioxidant properties which prevent damage, keeping your scalp and hair healthy.
  • Prevents scalp infections and soothes issues like dandruff, eczema, and psoriasis.
  • Stimulates hair re-growth from dormant follicles.

How to curl hair with flat iron

Beachy waves have become the hairstyle of a generation. They're as iconic as the '80s perm, the '90s Rachel and the pin-straight hair of the '00s. But creating the undone, textured style isn't always as easy as it looks. Sure, you can use a curling tong to create curls, but the easiest way to create flowing waves is actually with an old-fashioned straightener. Whether you've struggled and failed or never quite perfected the technique, we've compiled a completely foolproof guide on how to curl your hair with a straightener that (in our experience) has a 100% success rate.

Watch Now: How to Curl You Hair With a Straightener

Keep scrolling to discover the easiest way to curl your hair with a straightener.

BYRDIE UK

STEP ONE

Take a small section of hair (about an inch) and gently clamp with the straightener, smoothing out the root.

BYRDIE UK

STEP TWO

Twist the straightener at a 180º angle.

BYRDIE UK

STEP THREE

Begin to gently pull the straightener down the length of your hair.

BYRDIE UK

STEP FOUR

The quicker you smooth the straightener through your hair, the looser the wave will be. For tighter, corkscrew curls, glide the straightener slowly down the hair shaft.

BYRDIE UK

STEP FIVE

Once you've curled the entire length of the section, twist the curl around your finger to keep the hold. For a looser look, pull the strand straight and allow it to cool.

It's really as simple as that!

Once you've curled your entire hair, use your fingers to massage the roots, which will help to break up the curls and give you that beachy, undone look.

How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies Fast

How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies Fast

Fruit flies or gnats can be one of the most annoying pests in your home. They can come in to your home via the fruits, vegetable and plants you bring home and can be a complete pain to get rid of. The truth is, you can get rid of fruit flies fast with a couple of household ingredients in very little time!

I have to be honest, fruit flies have been an enemy of mine for many years. I usually start to notice them in early spring, and seem to fight them until late fall. They love to make themselves at home in my kitchen and bathroom sink drains, can be found buzzing around my indoor herb garden and fruit bowl, and have even taken a swim in my wine a few times…not cool!

I use THIS 3 Ingredient Gnat Killer to get rid of gnats and fruit flies, but it’s super important to trap as many as you can first to really get rid of them.

HOW TO GET RID OF GNATS FAST

Step 1 – Squirt 2-3 pumps (around 1 1/2 tablespoons) of dish liquid into a small bowl.

Step 2 – Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. If you don’t have any, you can use red wine vinegar instead.

Step 3 – Stir in some water, making sure that they suds up a little bit…the bubbles help to trap the fruit flies or gnats.

Step 4 – Place the fruit fly trap near any areas where fruit flies have been seen. You can use cute, decorative bowls like this one and place them by your kitchen and bathroom sinks, near a fruit bowl and even near an indoor herb garden if you have one. Nobody will even notice ;)

Within a half an hour, I noticed our first gnat was trapped in the solution…yay!

I typically change the solution out every couple of days for about a week, and then don’t see any gnats for a while. When I notice any new gnats around, I just make it again! This is such an easy, natural, inexpensive way to keep those pesky gnats out of your home!
